The Philadelphia Freedoms (4-4) host the Springfield Lasers this afternoon for a matinee beginning at 12:00 p.m. This will be the second meeting of the season between the two teams; the Freedoms travelled to Springfield for the first match and came with a 21-18 victory.
Today’s match will feature Darian King returning to the court for the Freedoms; King should be well rested after sitting out last night’s match as Andy Roddick tool the court in his place. King will face off against Benjamin Becker of the Lasers. In their first meeting, Becker beat King 5-2.
The Women’s Singles set will likely be played by Sloane Stephens of the Freedoms and Sorana Cirstea of the Lasers. Cirstea has a career high singles ranking of No. 21 The two met for the only time in 2013 when Cirstea beat Stephens in Dubai. Last night, Cirstea had a big singles victory over Venus Williams of the Washington Kastles, who beat Sloane just two nights ago.
The Mixed Doubles set projects to be Fabrice Martin and Taylor Townsend matching up against Jean-Julien Rojer andAnna-Lena Groenefeld. Rojer and Groendfield played a big match last night, defeating Bruno Soares and Venus Williams of the Kastles. This will be a good match, as Martin and Townsend also beat Williams and Soares earlier in the season.
Men’s Doubles will be a rematch of the July 20 match against the Lasers, in which Fabrice and Darian went up against Becker and Rojer. The set was close, but the Lasers went on to win in a tiebreakers.
