Freedoms vs. Kastles July 24

Tonight, the Freedoms (4-2) took on the Washington Kastles (3-3) for the second time in consecutive nights. In last night’s match the Freedoms beat the Kastles 20-18 in a close match. The story was different in tonight’s meeting as the Kastles were joined by two of the top tennis players in the world, Venus Williams and Sam Querrey. Both Williams and Querrey join the Kastles after reaching the Final and Semi-final at Wimbledon just a few weeks ago. The star ridden Kastles were able to beat the Freedoms in tonight’s match-up, putting an end to their four game win streak. The Freedoms and Kasltes are now once again tied for first place in the league standings sitting at 4-3.

Match Recap: Washington Kastles 20 – Philadelphia Freedoms 15

Men’s Doubles: Fabrice Martin and Darian King defeated Sam Querrey and Bruno Soares 5-4.

Women’s Singles: Venus Williams defeated Sloane Stephens 5-2.

Men’s Singles:  Sam Querrey defeated Darian King 5-3.

Women’s Doubles: Venus Williams and Anastasia Rodionova defeated Sloane Stephens and Taylor Townsend 5-0. This was the first loss for Stephens and Townsend this season.

Mixed Doubles: Fabrice Martin and Taylor Townsend defeated Bruno Soares and Venus Williams 5-0 to force Extended Play. Venus and Bruno won the first game in Extended Play, clinching the win for the Kastles.

The Freedoms look to bounce back from tonight’s loss and pick up their fifth win of the season tomorrow night against the New York Empire. The Freedoms lost two of three matches against the Empire so far this season. Tomorrow night, the Freedoms welcome International Tennis Hall of Fame Member, Andy Roddick, into the lineup.
